Supporting the resilience and wellbeing of your staff

We know that resilience and wellbeing are important – not just for individual staff members, but collectively to strengthen team performance, and support school improvement or organisational development processes.

Rather than waiting until a problem arises or an individual is visibly struggling, there is great value in proactively helping your staff learn how to maintain their resourcefulness, no matter the change, challenge, or uncertainty they are faced with.

In the education sector, levels of stress and burnout can be particularly high. Education Support's 2022 Teacher Wellbeing Index found that 75% of all school staff reported being stressed, including 84% of senior leaders. 42% of all school staff felt that their organisation's culture has a negative effect on their wellbeing, and around half (51% of senior leaders and 48% of teachers) considered that their organisations do not support employees with mental health or wellbeing concerns well.

It’s not realistic to avoid stresses altogether, but you can learn how to manage your state and respond more positively. You can be mindful in choosing your response, embrace change, and know how to adapt your life to improve your own wellbeing and satisfaction.
